(Recommended Areas)
Lake Kawaguchiko Area: This is the most accessible of the Fuji Five Lakes with the most developed tourism infrastructure. It's known for the superb views of Mount Fuji from its northern shores and from the ropeway leading up a small mountain at the lake's eastern end. You'll find a variety of accommodations here, from budget guesthouses to luxury ryokans.
Fujigoko Area: This encompasses the remaining four lakes (Lake Shojiko, Lake Motosuko, Lake Saiko, and Lake Yamanakako). These areas are less developed and thus offer more serene and tranquil environments. Accommodations are fewer but there are some wonderful ryokans and cottages that provide great views of Mount Fuji.
Fujiyoshida City: This city lies at the base of Mount Fuji and is the primary entry point for climbers. It's home to Fuji-Q Highland, a popular amusement park, and several historical sites. Accommodations here range from budget to mid-range hotels.
